The Official "Top 10 Reasons to Buy a OneGreatFamily Gift Subscription" List

With only one week to go before Christmas, we want to make sure you know why the OneGreatFamily Gift subscription is a great Christmas present. So, without further ado:

    10. A OneGreatFamily Gift subscription is the gift of family and a sense of belonging. What gift could mean more?

    9. You can cancel your annual 7-11 Christmas Eve shopping spree! With Gift subscriptions you could completely finish your shopping in the next 10 minutes!

    8. Aunt Phoebe doesn't already have one of these!

    7. One size really does fit all. A OneGreatFamily Gift subscription will be enjoyed and cherished by anyone on your gift list!

    6. You don't have to outbid Thelma in Schenectady to give a unique and wonderful gift.

    5. Cousin Bob won't have to stand in the "returns" line for three hours on Dec. 26th. No one ever wants to return a subscription to the OneGreatFamily, so they'll never know you got it 50% off.

    4. It is truly "the gift that keeps on giving" as each new family member is added to your recipient's family tree. Long after other gifts are used up, OneGreatFamily will continue to bring joy to those you love.

    3. It can't get lost, broken, bruised, scratched, stolen, bent, folded or mutilated. It's always safe and always hard at work for you!

    2. A Gift subscription will bring everyone in the recipient's family closer together. As they share data and learn more about their family, they will form bonds that will last for generations to come.

And now, the number 1 reason you should give OneGreatFamily Gift subscriptions this year:

    1. A OneGreatFamily Gift subscription will never show up on some late night talk show host's list of the 10 worst Christmas presents ever!

So act now, before time runs out.

Subscribers can purchase all gift subscriptions for 50% off!

Tech Tip: How to See Your Entire Family Tree

Are there Thousands of People Hiding in your OneGreatFamily tree?

When you open the OneGreatFamily Genealogy Browser, it automatically defaults to showing a minimum of 7 generations and a maximum of 13. You can toggle between the minimum and the maximum by clicking on the button labeled "Temporarily limit Starfield View".

Many subscribers to OneGreatFamily don't realize you can change the default minimum and maximum, which will allow you to see up to 512 generations of your family tree at once. Many subscribers are surprised to discover thousands or even tens of thousands of previously "hidden" ancestors on OneGreatFamily after changing this User Preference.

To change this User Preference, follow these simple instructions:

    1. Log into OneGreatFamily
    2. Choose your group and launch the Genealogy Browser
    3. Select "User Preferences..." from the File Menu
    4. Select "Settings" and increase the Max Generations setting to a higher value - up to 512! (You will want to be careful with this setting, since each generation will take more time to load onto your computer.)
    5. Click the "OK" button.
    6. Doublecheck that the "Temporarily limit Starfield" button (located in the toolbar in the Genealogy Browser above the Starfield) is not selected.
After changing this preference, you may have to wait some time for the Starfield to build. Your wait time depends on the number of generations you choose to display and the amount of information available at OneGreatFamily.

Everyone can see the size and shape of their family tree on OneGreatFamily; however, only subscribers will be able to see the names of anyone who has been added to their family trees through the matching and merging process.

Visit OneGreatFamily to collaborate with others around the world.

Success: I Never Knew I Was Related to Attila the Hun!

As described in the article above, it can be amazing what you find when you look deeper into your family tree. Maybe you'll have an experience like this:

    Dear One Great Family,

I have been a subscriber for a couple of years now, and have been pleased with the additional family information your service has provided me. Then, the other day, a friend of mine showed me how to expand my starfield to see more generations.

All this time I thought I had a tree with roughly 13 generations and about 300 people in it. Imagine my surprise when I increased the maximum generation to 50, and found out that there where over 30,000 people in my tree.

I started looking at the people way out there at the beginning of different lines, and found Attila "Scourge of God" the Hun! I also found several other really interesting people, like Charlemagne and some French and English Kings.

I've showed this to my 17-year of son, who we now call Scourge of the House, and he thought it was pretty cool. Thanks again for your wonderful service!
