Genealogy Site Chooses EdgeMail for Backend Infrastructure
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. and SPRINGVILLE, Utah, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- EdgeMail Technologies,
a leading Web-based software company and global e-business infrastructure provider,
today announced that it is providing data center hosting, network management, Web-based
e-mail and data storage for OneGreatFamily.com, the most dynamic Internet destination
for people interested in tracing their genealogy and family community features.
OneGreatFamily.com debuted June 1 as a beta launch, and its patent-pending technology
will revolutionize genealogy research by offering a single place for real-time collaboration
and storage of genealogical data.
"We are thrilled to have OneGreatFamily.com as a customer," said Michael Galloway,
president and CEO of EdgeMail Technologies. "Their unique and complex needs presented
a challenge we were eager to take on. EdgeMail's infrastructure will allow the site
and its features to grow as the number of users grow."
Genealogy has grown significantly through the uniting power of the Internet, where
it is currently the most popular online hobby. Approximately 20 million Americans
are actively researching their roots and an estimated 100 million have at least
dabbled in genealogy. OneGreatFamily.com includes the first worldwide collaborative
genealogical database with the capacity to house everyone who has ever lived on
the planet-making it the largest lineage-linked database in the world. It will also
be the first genealogy site that offers real-time collaboration, allowing people
anywhere in the world to contribute their research simultaneously.
EdgeMail initially will provide OneGreatFamily.com with 1 terabyte of storage, which
will grow larger as the number of users grows. The site expects 250,000 unique visitors
in its first two months and several million within the first year. OneGreatFamily.com
visitors will also have access to EdgeMail's Web-based e-mail free of charge.
Through EdgeMail's product offerings and service capability, OneGreatFamily.com
built its site in a unique way. A virtual private network (VPN) was set up between
OneGreatFamily.com and EdgeMail's servers, allowing OneGreatFamily.com's software
programmers to write code for the site directly onto EdgeMail servers. OneGreatFamily.com
reaped huge cost savings by not having to locate programmers at EdgeMail's facility
or move and reconfigure programs after developing code in their own offices.
"Because of our unique system requirements, including establishing a VPN to build
the site, we were very choosy about our back-end service provider," said Alan Eaton,
president and founder of OneGreatFamily.com. "EdgeMail went above and beyond the
call of duty. We found no one else in the marketplace who could provide an integrated
solution of hosting, storage and network management combined with the unique service
we were looking for."
EdgeMail also provides the infrastructure supporting the more than 10 million users
of Catholic Online. Catholic Online and OneGreatFamily.com have established a co-branding
arrangement under which OneGreatFamily.com will include a link from its Web site
to http://www.catholicroots.com , the future Catholic Online site for genealogy
research.
The full launch of OneGreatFamily.com will be in July.
