I lost all my family tree information on another website, but thankfully I was able to restore all my data from OneGreatFamily.

How to use OneGreatFamily to backup and restore your family tree.

Backup your family tree

First you need to input or import your family tree into OneGreatFamily.
When you input or import your family tree into our website your tree is instantly added to our secure data repository forever. The only way it can be removed is if you manually delete it.
Our data repository is monitored 24/7 with full backup and redundancy so your data is secure and won't be lost.
Anytime you wish to access your tree, simply log into onegreatfamily.com and use the website to manage, view or edit your tree.

Restore your family tree

Once your family tree is safely in our system, you can restore your family tree by using the Genealogy Browser to export your family tree as a GEDCOM file.
To export your family tree go to the Family Tree tab.
On the Family Tree tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Advanced Tree Editor" button.
The Genealogy Browser will automatically launch or you'll be prompted to install the Genealogy Browser. (What is the Genealogy Browser?, Genealogy Browser installation instructions).

Internet Explorer 7
FireFox 3
Windows Vista

Click the "Advanced Tree Editor" button.
A small "Launching Application" window will open.
When the "Launching Application" window finishes, it will automatically go away and next you will see a "Downloading GenealogyBrowser" window.
Once the Downloading GenealogyBrowser progress bar finishes Vista will show you a "User Account Control" window.
In the "User Account Control" click Allow.
The Genealogy Browser will then open. The Genealogy Browser is now successfully installed on your computer.

Windows XP

Click the "Advanced Tree Editor" button.
The grey "Launching Genealogy Browser" bar will appear.
Inside the white box on the right of the grey launching bar will be the message "Click here to install the following ActiveX control: 'Genealogy Browser' from 'Onegreatfamily.com'..."
Click the "Click here to install" message.
A small menu will appear with two choices "Install ActiveX Control..." and "What's the Risk?"
Click "Install ActiveX Control..."
An Internet Explorer - Security Warning will now appear.
Click the "Install" button.
The Genealogy Browser will then automatically install and open. The Genealogy Browser is now successfully installed on your computer.

FireFox 3
Windows XP

Click the "Advanced Tree Editor" button.
You'll be taken to the Important Installation for Netscape and Firefox Users page.
Listed on this page are a series of steps we are going to repeat here.
First click the "HERE" link in step 1.
Firefox will popup an "Opening npgb13.exe" window. Click the Save File button.
Firefox will next show npgb13.exe in the Firefox Downloads window.
Once dpgb13.exe is completely downloaded double-click it in the Downloads window.
Firefox will then popup a window asking you if you want to "Open Executable File?". Click the OK button.
Windows will then open a "Open File - Security Warning" window. Click the "Run" button.
Next Firefox will popup a "Genealogy Browser Plug-in" window, click the "Yes" button.
Firefox will then display a "Genealogy Browser Plug-in installation successful for Fire Fox 3.0.8 (en-US)!" message. Click the OK button.
The Genealogy Browser will then open. The Genealogy Browser is now successfully installed on your computer.

After the Genealogy Browser is open, click the File menu and click "Export the Current Individual to GEDCOM...".
The GEDCOM Export window will open.
Change the "Number of Generations" to include as many generations as you want to export. Currently you will be limited to 20 generations per exported GEDCOM.
Modify any other additional settings and then click OK.
A OneGreatFamily progress bar will appear.
Once the tree is finished exporting the progress bar will disappear an "Export completed successfully" message will appear.
Click the OK button on the Export completed successfully alert.
Your family tree is now in a GEDCOM file on your computer where you specified.
You can use this new GEDCOM to import your family tree into any other genealogy program or website that supports the GEDCOM format. Or you can back up your GEDCOM to a CD-ROM or flash drive for offline safe-keeping.
