Backup and restore your family tree online
Print these instructions
  1. Manually enter your family tree into OneGreatFamily or import your GEDCOM if you have one.
  2. Your data is now backed up! When you input or import your family tree into our website your tree is instantly added to our secure data repository, forever. (The only way it can be removed is if you manually delete it.)
  3. Our data repository is monitored 24/7 with full backup and redundancy so your data is secure and won't be lost.
  4. Anytime you wish to access your tree, simply log onto www.onegreatfamily.com and use the site to manage, view or edit your family tree.
  5. To restore your family tree go to the Family Tree tab.
  6. On the Family Tree tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Advanced Tree Editor" button.
  7. The Genealogy Browser will automatically launch or you'll be prompted to install the Genealogy Browser. (What is the Genealogy Browser?, Genealogy Browser installation instructions).
  1. After the Genealogy Browser is open, click the File menu and click "Export the Current Individual to GEDCOM...".
  2. The GEDCOM Export window will open.
  3. Change the "Number of Generations" to include as many generations as you want to export.
  4. Modify any other additional settings and then click OK.
  5. A OneGreatFamily progress bar will appear.
  6. Once the tree is finished exporting the progress bar will disappear a "Export completed successfully" message will appear.
  7. Click the OK button on the Export completed successfully alert.
  8. Your family tree is now in a GEDCOM file on your computer where you specified. You can use your GEDCOM to import your family tree into any other genealogy program or website that supports the GEDCOM format. Or you can back up your GEDCOM to a CD-ROM or flash drive.
