We all know there's a big difference between spam and the mail that we
actually like to get. I don't really need to see what goes on in my home
when I'm not there - I'm sure it's not nearly as exciting as those ads
imply - but I am always interested to see what's on sale this week at
FogDog.
The biggest difference between the two? I signed up for the FogDog newsletter.
More and more surveys and studies show the power of relevant, requested
email marketing. If you can write one article a month, bundle it with
other content from your site, and place targeted advertising inside -
you've got yourself another great stream of income, and an effective way
to communicate with your audience.
Does your site have a newsletter? Does your newsletter work for you?
Do you have a signup box featured prominently on every page?
If you worry about what to say in a newsletter, take a look at your website.
What new things have you added? What are you planning on adding? You can
also sign up for newsletters from your competition - they can be great
sources of ideas. (What you learned in school still applies, though: don't
plagiarize!)
Every newsletter is another great opportunity to integrate marketing
messages. Look for promotions from your merchants that are particularly
timely or relevant. Text links in email can be the very most effective
advertising of your entire marketing mix.
CGI scripts and other resources are available to help you set up a system
for 'capturing' email addresses of your visitors. A search on Google,
or a trip to CGIscript.net can show you a number of tools for gathering
information about your audience.
Try it out!
If you already have a large mailing list and you'd like to try a targeted
email with OneGreatFamily products, I'd be happy to create one for you
and work with you in getting it out! We've seen tremendous responses from
previous opt-in mailings, and we're always looking for other great ways
to share our success.
